A Winter without Water
Can you begin to imagine getting up in the morning to wrap up your small children to walk them through -15 degree temperatures just to find water? For most of us, it’s sounds like a passage from history book or even a film, but for some families living in Borodyanka, Ukraine, it is an everyday reality.
Oksana is one of the first families we helped on our Family Support Project. She is a single mum of 3 gorgeous children, Sacha 5, Vova 4 and Timofey 3. Their father passed away from Pneumonia just after Timofey was born, due to the lack of funds to seek medical help and treatment.
Oksana was left her family home and together they had dreams to make it a safe, warm and comfortable home for their children to grow. Never did Oksana dream that at the age of 27 she would be raising her children alone in a rundown home.
Over the past 18 months, supported by a family in the UK, Oksana has done some improvements to her home with new windows and electrics. But the water is a constant reminder of their situation. With the existing Well now dry, she relies on her neighbour for washing and bathing her children.
Water is the most basic of human rights and something that has become prevalent in the work that we do. We are constantly reminded of the need for clean water and sanitation, and the health risks as well as quality of life that it carries.
We are looking for partners to will share a common goal in providing for those most in need. We know that there are thousands out there in the same situation as Oksana, but for us today, her and the children are our main priority.
To drill a new deep Well with connection to the house for internal hot and cold water, the cost is approximately £950.
If you would like to help fund this project, we would love to hear from you and help bring water this winter to a most wonderful and courageous young family.
