Community Projects
Every time we visit, we are inspired and new ideas for a project begin to take shape. Some of our projects are small and require a small amount of fundraising or kind sponsorship. Others are a long term commitment to improving the facilities for the community of Borodyanka.
Here are a few of our current projects, but we are always open to ideas.
If there is a particular project you would like to know about please contact us with your enquiry and we hope that we can work with some of you in the future.
A Home for A Hero
Viktors Story
Viktor was a 'Liquidator' who at the time of the disaster was part of the nuclear waste clear up team. As a result of this, Viktor has suffered from cancer and has undergone over 20 treatments and operations.

We met Viktor and his beautiful family on our very first trip in October 2015. It was humbling to meet a man who suffers, because his actions have saved many lives in containing the effects of April 1986.
It was also a sad time as the family were preparing to lose Viktor as a husband and a father due to needing his leg amputated. It was the least that we could personally do for this family in paying for this operation.

A very special relationship was formed and over the last few years we have seen Viktor go through tough times, depression, pain and question his self worth. But he has come through it with the help of his family, the community of Novvy Korogod and the kind Family Support Sponsors.

This May we got to really see how Viktor and his family live, and it raised questions of how do they cope with this disability with no sanitation, water and very little income. The answer is well considering but it is not at a level that should ever have to be endured.

We would like to help Viktor and his family to remodel their house and provide them with the basic facilties that everyone should have, especially a hero like Viktor.

But it is a huge project. With the help of a local builder, we have had the house surveyed and plans drawn up to widen doors, put in ramps, a new kitchen and heating system, and a bathroom that can be used by all.

It will also give the children a bedroom and we would love to see them in their own beds this Christmas.

Together we need to raise £9500 for the complete works. It is a daunting amount of money for our small link to raise, but somehow we are already half way there!!

We would like to ask for help from anyone who can help reach this goal. Businesses that want to be a part for this fantastic, life changing project, to individuals who want to make a difference to this family.
Please get in touch.

Viktor, Tania, Lyosha & Victoria are like family to us and are the most deserving family we have ever met.
Why not come and meet them for yourselves, spend some time listening to Viktor's stories, and the warmth of Tania's embrace as they welcome you into their home. You will then understand why they need your help.
Sweet Dream's Project
Providing beds for children
As part of our Family Support Project we have met many children who do not have their own bed, sleeping with parents or sometimes on the floor.Â
This project has become really popular with small groups wanting to fundraise for a great cause where the direct benefit is the children.Â
A bed costs £150 or £250 for bunk beds and really does change the lives of our families.
Make a Memory
A dream come true for children
All children want to something to look forward to, to dream of a day at the Aqua Park or to go bowling, to be able to share their day with friends and be, well, normal, for the day.Â
That is what we would like to do for families that want to make a memory.Â
Take Sacha, he is 15 years old and will have his 21st session of Chemotherapy. He has battled with cancer and the tumour in his brain since he was small.Â
We want to help him through the tough times ahead with the memory of an interactive session with Dolphins at the marine reserve in Kiev.Â
The trip will cost £200.
Please contact us if you wish to make a memory for a child like Sacha.
Home Refurbishment
Helping Others
Families are struggling to provide the basic family comforts we so often take for granted. Many families need help with buying beds, or replace the electrics to make their homes safe.
We are working locally with families in setting up a fund to help anyone that may need a one off donation to make their house a safer home.
Sanitation
Things we take for granted
It is hard to believe that many of the families we have met and support, as well as schools, have no internal toilets, some still using water from a well.
After the success of our first project in a local village school to provide toilets for 70 children, we will will continue to support the community in providing better sanitation.
Music School
Inspiring creativity
During our visit to the local school in Novyy Korogod, we asked if the children played music. We were heartbroken to hear that they do not have any instruments.
We are now supporting the local music school too with new instruments to develop musical creativity in all children.
