CLEAN WATER PROJECT

In the summer, we repaired the main pipe into the village which has provided water once again to some of the residents.
In October, we met with the Village Council and a committee of residents, to discuss the current situation of water to the entire village. A full report was provided on the reasons for the contamination of water which is causing a high level of illness in the village. To summarize, some residents have water wells that are now drying up and the water should only be used for crops. However, the water being provided, past the new pipe work that we have supplied, is old and made of iron. Because of corrosion, there is a high level of contamination which makes the water brown.
Although the village now has water, which was our main focus in April, we have come to understand the full extent of their situation.
For a link as small as ours, this is a huge project to replace all of the water pipes to each of the 235 houses in the village, but one which we feel is fundamental to the survival and wellbeing of this village.
We are in the process of putting together a 5-year plan which we hope will see the replacement of water pipes to each street.
We would like to start with the poorest street in the village, as pictured, in Spring 2018 at a cost of £3,000 and are looking for sponsorship partners that would like to change the lives of the residents of this Chernobyl resettlement village.
